Everything Under the Son

Once Upon a Time...
Friday, August 03, 2012
Once upon a time, there was a young girl who loved life. She had a job she enjoyed, she had good friends, and she was involved in a great church family. She had met a handsome guy at church, and they spent many hours talking and sharing their thoughts, their hopes, and their dreams. One HOT summer day, they were out and about in town, running errands and buying toilet paper, when Mr. Handsome decided they should go for a drive. Miss Happy thought it was a fantastic idea because the a/c in the truck was working wonders at keeping them cool despite the oppressive heat outside. While on their drive, she even convinced Mr. Handsome to take her to a garage sale, one of her absolute favorite things to do!
After some garage sale shopping, Mr. Handsome drove over to the beautiful chapel that Miss Happy had mentioned before, hoping for a peek inside. Unfortunately, the doors were locked, so they could not go inside. Back in the truck, he pulled out a package for Miss Happy and told her to open it. Inside she found the most beautiful handmade cross. It was made of old wood, and had tiny silver cross charms hung all over the front of it...she knew it would make the perfect addition to her cross collection. As she began to thank Mr. Handsome for the gift, he told her there was more...she needed to turn it over and read the back.
Shocked, she turned the cross over and began to read..."2000 years ago, a cross held God's gift of love. Today, this cross holds my gift of love for you." What a beautiful sentiment for the beautiful cross gift...or not. Mr. Handsome then proceeded to take the cross and pull the two cross pieces apart. It was only then that she realized there was something hidden inside a small hollowed out place in the cross. She pulled out something tiny, carefully wrapped in tissue paper.
It was beautiful and it was for her. It was the most perfect diamond engagement ring she had ever seen! It was only then that she realized what was going on...Mr. Handsome was proposing marriage...wanting to spend forever with her. And of course, through her tears of joy, she said, "Yes!"
12 years ago today, this story took place. 12 years ago today, Mr. Handsome, otherwise known as Nathaniel, asked me to be his wife forever, and I said, "yes!"
I love you, Mr. Handsome!
