Monday Randomness

Monday, July 26, 2010

I'm trying to keep busy today, so I have nothing really deep or profound to share today.  It seems my to-do list continues to grow as we get closer and closer to the beginning of the school year.

I'll leave you with some random information for today, and hopefully be back later this week with something a little more interesting! :)

Levi and I spent the morning at the park with friends.  He loves to run and play...absolutely ALL BOY!  He sweats like crazy, and finishes his play time begging for water and a snack.  Today, he was thrilled when I gave him a snack container full of chopped strawberries with little appetizer forks to use.  He scarfed those down just in time for a trip to the grocery store...we are an exciting bunch!  Now that we are home, the groceries are put away, and we are loving the overcast skies.  I am holding hope that it will actually rain at our house today.  I know I have said it many times before, but I LOVE RAIN!

I have spent some time this afternoon working on my home management binder.  I am hoping to post lots of pictures and details soon, once it is finished.  I have actually enjoyed putting my new one together, updating information and deciding how I want it organized in the new binder.  I have strange ideas of fun, don't I?!  Here are some sneak peeks at the binder:

My binder and other supplies.

A picture of one of my dividers.  I "fancified" some plain dividers
so they would look exactly the way I want them too!

I haven't officially announced here, but I am going to be homeschooling Levi this next year for Pre-K.  Sending him to official 'school' this year is just financially not do-able.  We cannot afford it.  This will be his last year at home with me before he begins his school career with Kindergarten next year, so I am going to enjoy every minute I have with him this year.  We will be homeschooling, working together on lots of the basics like the alphabet, colors, numbers, graphing, and lots of other fun.  Of course it won't be 'full time'...I know many of you are wondering why it's homeschooling when it is simply Pre-K.  Trust me, we are going to have fun-fun-fun, but we are going to have a loose schedule and we are going to be learning!  The best part is, he is as excited about it as I am!  Yippee!

I have been looking into a book to help prepare him for reading.  Natalie is devouring books like candy these days, and he is showing interest.  I found the book I want to use, but was hesitant to spend the $25.  I was thrilled when I spent some mommy daughter time with Natalie Saturday morning and we ran to a few garage sales.  Those of you who know me well, know I love garage sales and can find awesome goodies for next to nothing!  What can I say, it's a gift! :)  Anyway, I was browsing the book section and to my delight, I found the exact book.  How much you ask?  New at Hastings, it retails for $23.00.  At my garage sale, I paid a whopping 25 CENTS!  That's right...I paid one quarter and walked away with the biggest smile on my face.  It was our only purchase of the morning...time spent with Natalie, lots of laughs, and we only spent 25 cents.  Sounds like a winner to me!

My 25 cent book!

As I mentioned earlier, Natalie is ready like crazy this summer.  She has completed over 2000 pages already, many of them from large chapter books like Tum Tum and Nutmeg and the Percy Jackson series.  We have encouraged her to keep it up, and have challenged her to read 4000 pages before school starts.  I am thinking that we may change the goal to 3000 pages...school starts soon, and 3000 is still LOTS of pages for a 7-year-old!  If she completes the 3000 pages, we will have some kind of treat for her!  If you see her out and about, encourage her! :)

That's it for my Monday randomness!

I read a blog and she highly recommends that book! I may need to borrow/purchase it from you when you are done for g. I hope it goes well!
