For My Sister

Not long ago, I stumbled upon a great craft online that really got me to thinking. Aren't those the best? The ones that really get your creative juices flowing?! Anyway, I have no idea where I saw it, so if you have seen this idea out in blogland, let me know so I can give credit where credit is due. Otherwise, just know that I am not the brains behind this little craft...I simply took their idea and made it bigger!

Without further ado, let me show you the mega-initial I made for my sister's front door.

Cute, yes?

Super easy, and the best part, super CHEAP! I got everything I needed at the Dollar Tree. I love that store! I am forever finding things in there that I can use to get my crafty fix. Dollar Tree, I'd be happy to talk with you about an agreement! If you give me free stuff, I'll make it fabulous and showcase it here on this little blog! Interested?

But I digress...you are wanting to know what I did? Here is a photo tutorial, and if you have questions, feel free to email me.

The cast of characters:
glue gun, bag of moss, sharpie, foam board, craft knife

Draw your initial on the foam core. Don't worry about being exact or perfect, and feel free to make corrections and adjustments. No one will see it in the end, so mark away!

Cut our your letter with your craft knife. I put the sharpie on top for this picture so you can get an idea of the size of my letters. Side note: I know some pictures show a "B" and some show a "J". I made both letters from one piece of foam board, and thought the "B" was so cute, I had to have a "J" for myself.

Once your letter is cut out, just start gluing the moss all over the top. Make sure you get the moss right up next to the edges so you cannot see the white foam board. This is a fairly messy little task, but so worth it! I would put some hot glue on a little section of the letter, and then cover it with moss. Then just move over to the next section and repeat. Be super careful not to burn your fingers...that hot glue is HOT!

It won't take long before you see your initial begin to take shape...and you will be so excited to finish.

Don't you love it? I plan to take a piece of fun ribbon, and thread it through the top of the B to make a hanger. I'm thinking this would super cute hanging on her front door!

Start to finish...less than an hour.

One your mark, get set, get to the Dollar Tree and start craftin'! If you make one of these, let me know. I would love to see your spin on this fun moss initial.

So gonna try this TODAY! I've seen it too, but you reminded me! However, do you think an H will hang right? Should I leave a hole in the upper corner to thread the ribbon through? Any thoughts?:)

YAY! SO CUTE!
