I decided that I would share our proposal story! It is a day I will never forget! Since I have never documented it here, I thought it would be a good idea. If you already know the story, don't feel obligated to keep reading. However, if you want a good 'make a tear fall from your eye' proposal story, then keep reading.

Nathaniel and I had been dating for about 4 months. He had accompanied me to the doctor for a check-up, and then we had stopped by the great Wal*Mart to pick up some toilet paper - I HATE to run out of toilet paper, and needed some for my apartment :) On the way back across town, I got a call about a great garage sale, so I drug Nathaniel into this indoor mega garage sale, where the temperature was approximately 287*! I was miserable hot!! When we finally left the garage sale, he said he wanted to drive around a little..."Sure," I said. As long as the A/C was working in his truck, I was happy to drive around a little. We drove a bit, and then ended up outside the chapel at HSU. I had always wanted to go inside, so I figured we were going to take a peek. No such luck, the doors were locked. In the parking lot, Nathaniel pulled out a big box for me...a gift. Some time before, I had asked him to make me a cross out of some old barn wood to add to my collection. Sure enough, inside the box was the cross, complete with tiny silver charms on the front. So sweet, I thought, giving me the cross at the chapel. Then I turned it over and read what he had written on the back,

"2000 years ago, a cross held God's gift of love.
Today, this cross holds my gift of love to you."

He had to clue me in, but when I took the two pieces of wood apart, there was a hollowed-out spot where the cross pieces actually cross. Inside, he had hidden my ring! AMAZING!

Mind you, we had never gone ring shopping. I was always of the mind-set that I wanted to be surprised. I wanted the man to pick out the ring HE wanted me to have, and that he would know when the right time was to propose. I wanted to completely shocked...and boy was I!

So there you have it...I said 'YES!' and the rest is history!

I love my man...God picked him just for me. We have been through a lot in our marriage. Cancer, infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, 2 healthy children...and we are stronger for it! I thank God for Nathaniel every day...and if we ever have to leave our house in a hurry, you can bet that cross is on my list of 'must takes'!

What about you? What's your proposal story?

What a beautiful story! I hadn't heard that.

Vann and I had dated for about 4 years. We are both such Type A personalities that we plan to plan . . . if you get my drift. We had planned to get engaged on Christmas Eve. He got down on one knee (on Christmas Eve) and asked me to marry him. We were in the living room of his house.

Two years before (before I knew him so well) I thought he was going to surprise me with a ring on my 20th birthday. He kept hinting and hinting that I was going to love the gift. He got out of the car at the end of our date, opened the trunk to his MGB and pulled out a classical guitar. I had wanted one of those, too. :)

Precious story....
Kelly and I dated for two years. The only time he really listened was when I told him I wasn't going to get married to anyone until after I got my masters. I was trying to put him off...didn't really think much of him. Then after awhile I got upset because he DIDN'T propose!! He said "You told me not until you got your masters" I reminded him I am a woman and changed my mind. About 3 days later he brought dinner to my house (summer time) because I was running late and we had to go work the citywide church service as ushers. I was all grumpy and ugly because he was not in any hurry to ask me to marry him. We sat to eat..said the prayer.. and I got ready to put the dressing on my salad. He told me I might want to toss the salad a little. I grumbled. He asked me something about how I liked the carrots. I stuck out my tougue. He then demanded that I toss the salad..so I huffed and did so only to find my ring in the middle of it. For a cowboy he is pretty smooth. I still have the plastic McDonald's container. There was a rush on salads that night!
Anyway, he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was crying and he would not take a head shake as an answer. Just after I said yes, the phone rang and it was my parents who were on vacation in Corpus. He got on the phone and asked my dad for my hand in marriage. You could hear my mom screaming in the back (I was 32) and they came home a day early!
To this day...I can't eat a McDonald's salad without missing that man!
