No, the Fruit of the Spirit is not a Banana!

Today we are starting a new tradition in our home! The Fruit of the Spirit Plate!

A week or two ago, I saw an idea online that I just loved...a way to incorporate more discussion about living God's word into our daily family time! A way to encourage daily living of the fruits of the spirit. The basics are, we have a new special plate that has fruit as the design. Whenever we see someone in our family living out one of the fruits in a special way, they are rewarded with the fruit plate to eat off of for dinner. Doesn't that sound great? Natalie is beside herself she is so excited. She cannot wait to hear who will be the first recipient of the Fruit of the Spirit Plate...and, of course, she is working hard to ensure she gets it :)

I can't wait to see where this leads us...what great questions and discussions this will spur on at our dinner table. I know my children are young, but there is no greater time than NOW to start writing God's word all over their hearts and lives.

Here is a photo of Natalie with the new Fruit of the Spirit Plate! I tried to get Levi in the picture too, but he wanted nothing to do with the camera today!

But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23

That's a great one - I've also heard of doing the same thing with runts - you know the hard candy in the shape of different fruits (do they even still make them?). Anyway, this mom kept a big jar and when one of her kids saw someone being "fruitful", they all got to have a piece of candy from the jar.

I always love your ideas - and they always work! Keep 'em coming.

The first night, Natalie got the plate. It was then her job to award the plate the next night. She awarded it to me because I had displayed kindness for cooking hamburgers on the grill. After dinner she came to me and gave me a big hug and then whispered in my ear, "Tomorrow, you can give me the fruit plate!"

Anne,

I love reading about you guys and your sweet family. I can always picture you doing and saying the same kinds of things as a little girl. Blessings, my friend! Miss and love you!
