For Sale: One sewing machine
Okay, maybe I am not really going to sell it, but I am about ready to drop-kick it out the front door! It's not working properly, and I have a deadline...or maybe I should say, HAD a deadline. High hopes filled my head as I planned to make Levi a nap-mat cover before his MDO starts. Adorable...lightweight yet sturdy denim-looking fabric, with a cute pillowcase and blanket made of bandanna and vintage cowboy fabric! It was going to be adorable!
I had it all cut out, roughly, but cut out nonetheless. You see, I was making my own pattern which translates to "No one else could make sense of the mess I had, but it was going to turn out beautifully 'cause I knew what the mess was". My sweet husband pulled out the machine and set it up. He even made a new bobbin for me, and then threaded the needle...all I had to do was sit down and sew away.
But, alas, it was not in my sewing plans for this to be successful. First, something was wrong with the bobbin...but we got that fixed quickly. Then, the stitches were all wrong, but we pulled out the manual and got that setting fixed as well. Then, more bobbin problems! AHHAAHH!
It was at this point that I folded up the fabric, and put it away, along with the notions I had gotten out.
All of the pins back in the box, check.
Thread put away, check.
Fabric folded neatly, check.
Machine placed back into it's box.
All of it put away out in the laundry room (out of my sight!), check.
It was too much, and I just couldn't handle the failure today. Maybe another time I will get it all out and see what I can make of it, but for now, I am wondering a couple of things:
1) Could my son possibly use the yellow floral nap mat that Natalie had two years ago? (Nathaniel's vote would be a loud NO!)
2) How much are the nap mats at JC Penney?
3) Is there enough money in the bank to purchase one and still eat for the rest of the month?
I think I need a nap mat for myself after all of this! I hope your crafty/sewing endeavors are much more successful than mine! :)

I think I have one with Makaley's name on it! It is dogs and cats, BUT Levi may be like Makaley...give me a pillow and some floor space AND if I AM tired....Who cares? Of course that may be my sentiments when I get through tomorrow. Just floor space and a glass of lemon flavored ice tea with a bendable straw so I don't mess up the new shirt. AT least you weren't making him an outfit for the first day and he had to go naked.
Come over tomorrow. My sewing machine is still out along with all bits of thread and fabric scattered about the floor. After one complete disaster and several trips to find new fabric, Ella's nap mat is finished! It'll be fun. The kids can play, you can sew.
I decided yesterday that I shouldn't wear my "complaint free" bracelet while sewing -- since shouting curse words counts as complaining!
Take Melissa up on her offer, and if that doesn't work out, give Levi a towel until you can do what you want. Truly, he will be fine.

I give you a BIG "high Five" for even trying to venture out and make a nap mat! Let us know if you borrow the friends machine and complet your task! Take care.....
Good luck, I sewed a nap mat for Derek when he went to kindergarten. I sewed mine by hand if that tells you how competant of a sewing machine person I am. I have since sold the sewing machine (it belonged to my mom and no one in my family wanted it, so I was graciously asked to hoist it to my house.) It was a big white item of guilt. Why is it that when I would look at it, it reminded me of just how much less I know than the previous generation. I sold it so I would no longer have to look at it and feel guilty for not knowing how to use it. A needle and thread are more my speed.
